Sidetrack Laser's Trackside Series is a selection of kits that depict various MOW Structures & Facilities crucial to period operations found along the tracks primarily during the Transition Era of Railroading.......but also adaptable to other eras. These kits will be designed so that beginning to experienced modelers can easily assemble them for added detail to their Layouts/Dioramas.

Sidetrack Laser's Yardmaster's Office follows no particular prototype. We started with a Great Northern Standard Signal Maintainer's Shack and redesigned it by removing a side door. Then we simplified a design concept of a Yardmaster's Office on the FW&D in Texas by adding a dock & elevating it for Truck and/or Railcar Loading/Unloading.

Sidetrack Laser's Trackside Passenger Shelter Follows the Design Concept of Southern Pacific's 10x20 Newberg Branch Standard Shelters found along the Red Electric Line in Oregon. Since we only had a photo to work from.....there may-be some part of the Standard Plan that was not followed in the design of this kit.

Graphics in the kit include a small selection of
locations with-in the SP System. You can also use our graphics as a size
template & formulate your own graphics specific to your layout locations using
your computer.

Interlocking/Train Order Office
We started designing this kit using a photo of the end of a facility with these functions we found on The Great Northern Mainline at Everett Junction in Washington up to the 1940's. After completing the design process; we learned that all though we had a good reproduction of the end we could see in the original photograph.......we were no where's close to the prototype's over-all length measurement; something we couldn't determine from our reference photo.
Instead of redesigning the entire kit; we opted to release the kit as a Layout Friendly Freelanced Version of the Facility you can either model as a Train Order Office; a Small Interlocking Facility or Both.

Snow Shed
Mountain Railroads from the Rockies To the High Cascades have encountered and battled the ongoing problems of Winter Snow Falls. One of the ways they got around snow on the mainline was construction of snow sheds to cover the track. These sheds covered a wide array of design styles from railroad to railroad.
Sidetrack Laser has designed a generic Snow Shed loosely following a Great Northern Design. You can install this kit as a stand alone installation or string them together with a little kit Bashing.

Sidetrack Laser's Tool House is designed from a Great Northern Standard Plan dating from the late 1950's. We added a couple of features & changed the siding called for on the exterior walls to resemble an earlier corrugated steel metal wall.
Both the Tool House & the following Motor Shed have 3 Interior Walls with Laser Cut Interior Framing Detail

TOFC Walkways and Wooden Loading Ramp

During the early days of TOFC Service, loading and unloading was a labor intensive operation. Many railroads like the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (CB&Q) built and installed elevated walkways at some of their TOFC terminals to make it easier for yard personnel to handle tie down equipment, landing gears and hitch bases. Loading Ramps came in many different materials and designs.
If you order a Combination Kit; Sidetrack Laser offers you 2 Laser Cut 9" HO Scale TOFC Walkways and a Wooden Loading Ramp kit. We have made it easy for you to design an early TOFC Facility for your layout. If you only need part of a Combo Kit; You have the option of purchasing walkways/loading ramps individually. The walkways can either straddle your TOFC track as shown or be mounted end to end to model a combination TOFC/Team Track Facility.
